The Intact system, which is a more recent procedure than the Mammotome system, also removes sample tissue with stereotactic guidance. However, whilst the Mammotome system removes cores/cylinders or ‘carrots’ that sit adjacent to each other the Intact system removes one sample of 10mm in diameter. Both methods rely on the same principle of diagnosis. These are not treatments methods unless the lesions are benign.
