Breast cancer is the most common form of female cancer. In the past 20 years it has become even more common with 1 in 8 women today suffering from this form of cancer, although lung cancer may become the most common form of cancer in the future due to female smoking rates.
The prevalence of breast cancer has meant that in France and in most of the industrial nations, cancer detection is performed by mammogram.
This is so as to detect the earliest stage cancers and thereby apply the most appropriate treatment thus improving the cancer’s prognosis and so improve life expectancy for women with breast cancer.
